MEP.ms – Competitiveness Review
The Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Mississippi Assessment Tool - the Competitiveness Review (or CR) is a tool to identify the limits to profitability within a manufacturer's operations. A comprehensive, 360 degree view of the company is used to assess which areas of improvement will have the largest impact.
The CR Process:
| 1. Company contact reviews the CR Questionnaire | 1-2 weeks prior to the on-site visit |
| 2. On-site assessment with the Company contact Hour 1: Discussion of the business and the current situation. Hour 2: Walk-through: Order entry to shipment Hour 3: Validation of questionnaire | 3-4 hour segment |
| 3. Presentation of the Assessment Report | 3-10 days after the on-site visit |
Assessment Report:
Unlike a lot of industrial assessments, MEP.ms does not attempt to create a "laundry list" of things which can be changed to "improve" the manufacturer's operations. Instead, we determine the two or three limits to company profits. These "bottlenecks" preventing additional profits are then explored to see how they can be overcome or removed. The tool is loosely based on the Theory of Constraints and subsequent work by Eliyahu Goldratt. Comparisons to the over 1000 other companies that have participated in the Assessment process are also presented as a part of the report.
